Weekly Update
Varsity:
The Astros traveled to Stellos Stadium to challenge the #2 seeded Blue Hawks of Exeter in the Class L Championship Game. Pinkerton attempted to pull off another upset for the second straight season in order to be the champion. This would not be an easy task.
After a scoreless first half, Exeter scored with 15 minutes to play. Pinkerton tried to get the equalizer but never managed to “tickle the twine” during the game.
Pinkerton’s defense of Kenny Kolbeck, Mike Kelly, Doug McLaughlin and Kyle Letourneau had their hands full all afternoon with Exeter’s front line. The performed admirably and allowed the Astros every opportunity to stay in the game. Pinkerton created some good chances but was unable to convert them into goals.
Finals score: Exeter 1 Pinkerton 0
It was the second consecutive season that Pinkerton has made it to the championship game and left as the second best team in Class L. Last season, Concord spoiled the Astros championship dream by scoring a 2-1 victory.
“I am extremely proud of the accomplishments that this team has made this season. The behavior, attitude, work ethic and sportsmanship have been outstanding this year. It has been a joy and a privilege to coach this group of kids. This team has shown that sportsmanship, class and playing clean soccer can still give you positive results. They have represented themselves, the coaches and Pinkerton Academy in a positive fashion every day this season. Each of these boys will find success in life, I’m sure of it. When they have a chance to reflect on this incredible season, they will realize the impact that they have had on our school and Pinkerton soccer. They have made friendships and left impressions on everyone they met this year. I will always remember this season and the dedicated players. I will miss these boys tremendously”, Coach Kerry Boles.
The Astros final record ends at 15-3-2.
