Pinkerton administration, faculty, staff, parents,
and students conducted a thorough self-study during most of 1998 and the winter
and spring of 1999. This was done in preparation for the 10-year accreditation
visit by an 18-member committee of the New England Association of Schools and
Colleges. This 3-day visit and evaluation took place in October of 1999. In the
visiting committee’s subsequent summary report, there were 5 major
recommendations:
- Develop a formal system of internal communication and decision-making.
- Develop a campus master plan for facility development.
- Assess and reorganize the academic and personal counseling services.
- Develop a system for ongoing planning and decision-making for the management of technology.
- Develop a plan for the succession of the headmaster (who is nearing retirement).
Also in the report were many unusually positive quotes reflecting the committee’s assessment of the quality of life, people, and education at Pinkerton. Several of the quotes from the report are:
"The atmosphere and climate would be envied and difficult to duplicate in a school of any size."
"Walking around the campus is an enriching experience."
"This school of nearly 3000 students is managed in such a fashion that it functions in an amazingly productive manner."
"There is clearly a sincerely demonstrated concern for others. Efforts to promote acceptance, tolerance, justice, mutual respect, and harmony in the school community have been successful."
"Students, parents, and community members feel that Pinkerton Academy is the place to be if you are a student in southern New Hampshire."
"A very competent and professional support staff and faculty have clearly enunciated the high expectations and goals for all students. Honest efforts are made to be consistent and fair in expectations and discipline for all."
"Pinkerton is to be commended for the accomplishment of making such a large school seem intimate, nurturing, and supportive to all that are part of the school community."
"Although many things have changed over the past 185 years, one thing has remained constant, and that is the expectation that students will be courteous, respectful, and responsible citizens in their school and communities. Students stated they were aware of the values of Pinkerton before they ever arrived at the school."
"We should be proud that Pinkerton Academy is a part of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges."
