Career-Focused Classes

Career-Focused Courses are primarily open to all to 11th and 12th graders (10th grade students are enrolled only with the permission of the CTE Director). The goal of the career-focused programs described below is to prepare graduates for entry two periods per day for two years; (note that the Pre-Engineering program is a 3-year program beginning with the Introduction to Engineering Design in the 10th grade).

 

Horticulture Technology (Full Year, Doubled Period Courses)

747 Forestry Technology (double period)

        This full-year course is designed to give a hands-on introduces to forestry and natural resource conservation.

777 Environmental  Studies/Outdoors Skills (double period)

        This full-year course is designed for students interested in the environmental sciences and natural resource management.


Horticulture Technology
(Half Year Courses)

735 Floral Design (semester one)

       This half-year double period Horticulture course is designed to prepare students for careers in the floral industry.

736 Greenhouse Management (semester two)

     This half-year double period  Horticulture course is designed to prepare students for careers in the greenhouse industry.

737 Landscape Design (semester one)

       This half-year Horticulture double-period course is designed to provide students with an introduction to the elements of design in the landscape industry.

738 Landscape Installation and Maintenance (semester two)

        This half-year double period Horticulture class is designed to prepare students for careers in the landscape industry, nursery management, and in the sale and marketing of related products and services.

673 Accounting II Lab
       
This course is designed  as a project-based and hands-on practical experience in completing all financial tasks involved in the operation of a business.
 

Business and Finance (Full Year, Doubled Period Courses)

670 Business Technology (Full Year, Doubled Period Courses) 

        This course is designed for students interested in pursuing a career in business and/or pursuing a business-related degree in college.
 

Marketing and Business Management  (Full Year, Doubled Period Courses)

760 Marketing and Business Management  1 (double period)

        This full-year course, the first half  of a 2-year program of instruction in marketing.

780 Marketing and Business Management  2 (double period)

        This full-year course, the first half  of a 2-year program, which intensifies, follows through, and elaborates on material covered in Marketing and Business Management 1.

 

Health Science Technology 1 (Full Year, Doubled Period Courses)

761 Health Science and Technology 1 (double period) (formerly Allied Health)

        This full-year course is the first half of a 2-year program designed to help students explore medical/health career opportunities.

 

Health Science  Technology 2  (Full Year, Doubled Period Courses)

        This full-year (2 credit) course is the second half of a 2-year program, and intensifies, follows through, and elaborates on material covered in Health Science and Technology 1.

Drafting

764 Advanced Drafting and Design Technology 1 (double period)

        The program is designed to further develop the students' drafting skills including architectural and mechanical design.

765 Advanced Drafting and Design Technology 2 (double period)

        This full year is the second half of the 2 year program, and intensifies, follows through, and elaborates on material covered in Advanced Drafting and Design Technology 1.  

 

Building Construction  (Full Year, Doubled Period Courses)

750 Building Construction Technology 1 (Residential)

        This full-year course is the first half of a 2-year program, and provides students with a fundamental background in many aspects of a residential building construction, particularly framing of floors, walls, and ceilings.

751 Building Construction Technology 2 (sem. 1)

        The first semester of this course expands and improves upon the basic skills acquired during the first year.

752 Building Construction Technology 2 (sem. 2)

        The second semester of the course will focus on residential finish work, both exterior, and interior as well as basic architectural millwork and cabinetry.

 

Automotive Technology  (Full Year, Doubled Period Courses)

745 Automotive Systems Technology 1 (double period)

        This automotive program is certified by the National Automotive Technicians Educational Foundation (NATEF) under the authority of the Institute of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE).

746 Automotive Systems Technology 2 (double period)

         This automotive program is certified by the National Automotive Technicians Educational Foundation (NATEF) under the authority of the Institute of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE).

 

Climate Control Technology (HVAC) (Full Year, Doubled Period Courses)

775 Climate Control Technology 1 (double period)

       This full-year course is the first half of a 2-year program, and designed for the student who is interested in a career related to the installation and service of Heating and Air Condition equipment.

776 Climate Control Technology 2 (double period)

        This full- year course is the second half of a 2-year program, and intensifies, follows through, and elaborates on material covered in Climate Control Technology 1.

 

Computer Technology (Full Year, Doubled Period Courses)

705 Computer Technology – PC Hardware (double period)

        This full-year course, the first half  of a 2-year program, is focused on PC  operating systems and hardware configuration, installation, and maintenance.     

706 Computer Technology – Network Systems  (double period)

        This focus of the second-year course in the computer technology program is on network systems. 

 

Electrical Technology (Full Year, Doubled Period Courses)

753 Electrical Technology 1 (double period)

        This full-year course is the first half of a 2-year program designed to have the student gain the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully enter the field as an apprentice.

754 Electrical Technology 2 (double period)

        This full-year course is the second half of a 2-year program, and intensifies, follows through and elaborates on material covered in Electrical Technology 1.

 

Pre-Engineering 

726 Introduction to Engineering Design (Full year, Single Period Course)

        This course is designed to develop student problem-solving skills with emphasis placed upon the concept of developing a 3-D model of an object.
727 Principles Of Engineering ( Half Year, Double Period Course)
    
This course is designed to enable students to understand the field of engineering/engineering technology.
728 Digital Electronics (Half Year, Double Period Course)
   
Digital electronics is a course in applied logic that encompasses the application of electronic circuits and devices.
701 Computer Integrated Manufacturing (Half Year, Double Period Course)
   
CIM is a course that applies principles of rapid prototyping, robotics and automation.
702 Engineering Design and Development (Half Year, Double Period Course)

    In this course, students will work in teams of two to four to design and construct the solution to an engineering problem, (original, taken from a database of problems, or a national challenge) applying the principles developed in the four preceding courses.

771 Welding Technology 1 (double period)

        This full-year course is the first half of a 2-year program, and is designed for anyone who wishes to learn welding and metal fabrication.

772 Welding Technology 2 (double period)

        This full-year course is the second half of a 2-year program, and intensifies, follows through, and elaborates on material covered in Welding Technology 1.
