Career-Discovery Courses courses are open to all students but are recommended for 9th and 10th graders. The goal of the career and technical education program at Pinkerton Academy is two-fold: to prepare graduates for entry level employment in a skilled occupation and to continue study at a post secondary level. Freshmen and sophomores are encouraged to elect a number of the introductory, career-discovery courses  to take advantage of the opportunity to explore, experience, and measure personal interest and aptitude. Most students find that these courses provide a good foundation for the advanced level, career focused programs that are available at the 11th and 12th grade levels (in some cases to 10th graders).

Career-Focused Courses are primarily open to all to 11th and 12th graders (10th grade students are enrolled only with the permission of the CTE Director). The goal of the career-focused programs described below is to prepare graduates for entry level employment in a skilled occupation and continued study at the post secondary level. The classes in these programs meet two periods per day for two years; (note that the Pre-Engineering program is a 3-year program beginning with the Introduction to Engineering Design in the 10th grade).
