Career-Discovery programs
Career-Discovery courses are open to all students but are recommended for 9th
and 10th graders. The goal of the career and technical education program at
Pinkerton Academy is two-fold: to prepare graduates for entry level employment
in a skilled occupation and to continue study at a post secondary level.
Freshmen and sophomores are encouraged to elect a number of the introductory,
career-discovery courses to take advantage of the opportunity to explore,
experience, and measure personal interest and aptitude. Most students find that
these courses provide a good foundation for the advanced level, career focused
programs that are available at the 11th and 12th grade levels (in some cases to
10th graders).
Career-Focused
Programs

all Career-Focused programs
The goal of career-focused programs is to prepare graduates for entry level
employment in a skilled occupation and continued study at the post secondary
level. Most classes in these programs meet two periods per day for two years,
and are feared for juniors and seniors; (note that the Pre-Engineering
program is a 3-year program beginning with the Introduction to Engineering
Design in the 10th grade
Detailed descriptions of career-focused programs in the department may be
found in the “Center for Career and Technical Education Program Selection
Guide”, which will be distributed to underclassmen in late January/early
February and will also be available in the CTE and guidance offices. This guide
provides detailed information on the safety requirements, insurance coverage,
and immunization needs for certain courses.
Note: Students must complete a registration form to enroll in the first year of
career focused program a program. Registration forms are found in the below,
back of the CTE Program Selection Guide and are available in the CTE office. In
addition to programs listed in this section, the introductory programs listed in
the Career-Discovery Courses section are available to 11th and 12th graders. See
