Grading and Non-participation Policy
Grading: Each student can earn a possible 4 points for each day of activity, which includes participation, cooperation, effort, attitude, and compliance of school policy. Total participation grade = 75% Test grade = 25%.
Minimum Participation: Due to the nature of Physical Education class, a student is required to physically participate in at least 30 days per term. A student who fails to meet this minimum will fail the term. The use of PE makeup for a non-participation day can be used as an activity day.
Non-Participation Days: A student must be prepared for activity each day. This includes a full change of clothes including sneakers. A student who has not met the requirements will receive a non-participation day and may make up class after school Monday thru Thursday from 2:25-3:00 A student will not receive credit if asked to leave class for unacceptable behavior. A day in which a student does not receive credit due to disciplinary action may not be made up. Five days of non-participation in one quarter without make-up would result in a withdrawal from class or academic failure.
Medically Excused Days: On medically excused days the student will be required to write a report pertaining to health and fitness. Not completing the assigned report on the expected day can result in a zero for each day a student did not participate. If a student is medically excused for:
1 to 5 days 1 two-page report (must include one reference)
6 to 10 days 2 two-page reports (must include one reference each report)
11 to 15 days 3 two-page reports (must include one reference each report)
Long Term Injury or Illness: A student who is unable to participate in activity for 3 days or longer, must have a doctor's note. Any student who is unable to participate in activity for longer than 3 weeks will be removed from PE and rescheduled the following year.
Absence Explanation: Any student who is present more than half the period and does not participate will receive an excusable zero. Any student who is present less than half the period is considered absent for the day.
Tardy to Class: A student is responsible for being in the locker room on time. For the first offense, there will be a verbal warning. For the second and any subsequent offense, the student will receive a detention.
Leaving Class Early: A student who leaves class early without permission will receive a detention.
Suspension: A student suspended from school is allowed to make up the work. A student can receive up to 100% credit for make-up work caused by a suspension.
