We're proud to announce that as of November 2nd, Pinkerton will be dramatically increasing the number of materials that the Academy will recycle. We will be doing this as part of Casella's Zero-Sort program.
As of next month, all types of paper, cardboard, plastics #1-#7, aluminum, tin, and steel will be recyclable at Pinkerton. The red plastic bins that have been used on campus for paper until now will be the common place for all of these materials.
This program has been spearheaded by Pinkerton's Go Green Committee with great support from the Administration and custodial staff. With the help of the students, a successful recycling program of this size and scope will make the Academy the largest secondary school in the entire region to practice this type of all-in-one recycling and will place Pinkerton in a leadership position that we should all be tremendously proud of.
Implementing this program will also result in Pinkerton’s generating far less trash waste, thereby reducing the fees the Academy will need to pay to have that waste removed. A successful recycling program will also enable Pinkerton to minimize its carbon footprint, reducing our impact on the larger environment. So, not only will this free up funds for other, more productive uses, it will also result in a safer, cleaner, and healthier environment for all of us.
Pinkerton's extremely large number of students and its expansive campus put the Academy in the position of potentially having a substantial, positive impact on the environment. Learning and practicing the conscientious use of resources in this way is part of being responsible and productive within the larger community. Therefore, recycling on this level is central to Pinkerton's philosophical values and Mission Statement.
